• The Department has research collaborations with a number of national and International institutes like the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Indian Space Research Origination (ISRO) and Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Space Application Centre, (SAC), the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), Australian National University, University of Buffalo, USA, etc.
  • Dr. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo was awarded the best paper award from the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) for the paper titled “Influence of Surface and Vegetation Characteristics on C-band Radar Measurements for Soil Moisture Content”. Journal of Indian Society of Remote Sensing, vol. 30, No. 4, pp. 229-244.
  • Dr. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo was awarded the best Research award from the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) for the paper titled “Estimation of biophysical parameters Using Airborne Multi-frequency Polarimetric SAR Data” International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).
  • Dr. Gh. Jeelani, Sr. Assistant Professor, was selected for the Fulbright fellowship in 2010.
  • The Department of Earth Sciences is the first of its kind in the country to establish a national ice core laboratory with the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to study the Himalayan cryosphere for Paleoclimate and recent changes in the climate.
  • Since its inception in 2000, the department has awarded Twenty (20) PhD/MPhil Degrees.
  • The pass-out students of the department are working in various prestigious institutions like the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Universities, Colleges, Higher Education, Geology and Mining, Power Development Corporation, National Hydropower Corporation etc.
  • Dr Reyaz A. Dar was selected for the "Teach the Teachers workshop" at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, in 2016.
  • Dr Akhtar Rasool Mir was awarded the “Smt. Ketharaju Venkata Subbamma-Sri. Subba Rao Medal” for the best contribution in the field of Geochemistry Applied to Mineral Resources during 2008-2018 on 19th September 2018 by Indian Society of Applied Geochemists (ISAG) at 22nd Annual General Body Meeting held at Department of Geology, Bangalore University, Bangalore, Karnataka.
  • Dr. Sarah Qazi was awarded the INC-IAH Young Scientist Award 2018 in groundwater studies by the Indian National Chapter –of the  International Association of Hydrogeologists
