M.Sc. Applied Geology


The Department of Earth Sciences offers M.Sc Applied Geology degree to any graduate (who qualifies the entrance test) of any recognized University with 55% marks in the B.Sc degree and with Geology as one of the core subjects. The program is focused with the aim to develop knowledge acquisition skills among the students so that they are able to learn individually and work collaboratively.


The department focuses on the research oriented teaching approaches so that students are able to synthesize ideas and critically focus on them and to communicate them effectively and professionally to a range of audiences. Some of the courses focus on the environmental issues like climate change, environmental geology, health geochemistry etc., so that students get a sense of responsibility to environmental sustainability. Besides, majority of the courses taught at the PG level are employment oriented. The department organizes local and national field work tours in the first two semesters to impart field training as well as lab training to the students so that they get familiarized with the experimental learning along with the routine class work. Besides, all the core subjects in each program have 3 hrs of practical work per week in order to familiarize the students to the practical aspects of the subjects.
